The LUCI Electronic Cigarette is a smokeless device which many people believe delivers much of the pleasure of smoking without the smoke. Since the cigarette is smokeless, the LUCI can be used indoors in places where smoking may be banned and does not produce any harmful second-hand smoke. Instead of smoke, the LUCI delivers a measured amount of vapor to the user, which is inhaled like smoke, but doesn’t contain most of the toxic substances which occur in tobacco smoke. If you are not yet ready to quit smoking, LUCI may be a smoking-alternative to consider.
How it Works
The LUCI is a small, electronic device about the same size and shape as a cigarette. It is battery-powered and has a vaporizer and replaceable nicotine/flavoring cartridge inside.
As the LUCI-user inhales through the device, sensors trigger the battery to activate the vaporizer, and a measured amount of the nicotine/flavoring cartridge contents are vaporized and delivered through the mouthpiece. This produces an effect simulating the inhalation of smoke and delivering a measured amount of nicotine.
The cartridges contain a mixture of propylene glycol, flavorings and can contain nicotine. They are available in three levels: high nicotine, medium nicotine or zero nicotine. Flavors currently available are:
- Coffee
- Menthol
- Full Flavor
- Cherry
- Clove
- Blue Berry
- Chocolate
LUCI comes in Cherry, Coffee, Menthol, & Full

Not a Quit-Smoking Device, A Smoking Alternative
The LUCI Electronic Cigarette is not meant to be used as a quit smoking program, but instead the manufacturers believe it to be a less-harmful alternative to smoking, because it does not contain the many other harmful substances which are in tobacco smoke. Since it can (at the user’s option) deliver nicotine, it should not be used with other products that contain nicotine, and has the same health risks associated with any product which contains nicotine. If you are interested in the LUCI, please check all the safety precautions and health risk information available on the LUCI website.
If you have read the safety and health information and think the LUCI Electronic Cigarette may be right for you, Starter Kit packages are available with special savings on select packages:

Electronic cigarettes seem like an interesting idea but they are not really a quit smoking program. If you buy one of these things you will still be puffing on it and inhaling nicotine. So what’s it so good for? just quit completely.

I think you are right – it is not supposed to be a quit smoking program – and I do agree that anyone would be better off quitting all nicotine – but for people who are not going to quit, an electronic cigarette seems like a better alternative to smoking tobacco.
I’m not a doctor or scientist, so I don’t quite understand why the electronic cigarette is not considered a form of NRT like the gum or patch since it is a device that delivers nicotine without all the harmful tobacco chemicals – but it is not considered NRT or a quit smoking device.
I do think, however, that someone who switches from smoking tobacco to smoking an electronic cigarette would be more likely to quit in the long run than if they kept smoking tobacco and would be better off for their health. But that is only an opinion of someone who is not a doctor.
But if someone in my family were a smoker and they did not want to quit completely, I would rather have them use an electronic cigarette than to keep smoking tobacco.
